This February, take an Icy Plunge into the Atlantic Ocean
in the 2006 Polar Bear Plunge
to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey

Point Pleasant Beach, NJ – Waves of fun will wash ashore on Sunday, February 26 when the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey will host more than 2,500 guests from around the state to participate in the 13th annual Polar Bear Plunge. The event, which brings some 5,000 people to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk at Point Pleasant Beach, benefits Special Olympics New Jersey.

Registration for all Plungers will begin at 8:30, with the simultaneous Plunge into the Atlantic Ocean scheduled for noon. Awards and prizes will be presented to the individual who raises the most funds, and for the largest group of Plungers. In addition, a travel related raffle will be held.

Big Joe Henry, the NJ101.5 voice of the Plunge, will broadcast live from the Plunge site with updates, fun facts and music to wrap the day in a blanket of excitement.

This single-day Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey event has raised more than 3.5 million dollars over the past 12 years through pledges collected by participants and donations from sponsors such as the NJ State Policemen’s Benevolent Association, Inc.

The success of this event has advanced the goal of Special Olympics New Jersey, to provide free year-round training and competition in 23 Olympic-type sports to more than 14,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Plunge has helped to fund the creation of new programs, as well as expand existing programs.

Additionally, the continued success of this event has landed the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey in the highly desirable first place slot in the world for the fourth consecutive year for the highest grossing fund raising program of it’s kind. The dedicated group of Law Enforcement volunteers raised more than $1,700,000 in 2005.

“The Law Enforcement community in New Jersey is a dedicated and hard-working group of volunteers who commit themselves to the benefit of the athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey. As our fund raising programs grow each year, so does the commitment we feel to each and every athlete,” according to LETR State Committee Director and Deputy Chief of Port Authority New York/New Jersey Robert Belfiore.
